New Leadership, A New Direction
Health Insurance:
Everyone in Texas deserves health insurance, and I will fight for coverage for EVERYONE. The
health insurance crisis poses a greater threat to Texas than any other issue and needs to be
immediately addressed.
The Texas Health Insurance Plan (THIP) must be instituted.
We must ensure that as many citizens as possible receive coverage until THIP becomes available.
We must ensure that THIP has parity in mental and physical health, as well as prescription drug
and substance abuse benefits.
Education:

the answer for all the problems of the world - come to a single word. That word is "education."

Public education is essential to American democracy and economic opportunity, recognizing that a
free public education provides all Texans an opportunity to achieve to their fullest potential.
We must provide the best learning environment for our children and 100% funding for our schools.
According to the Thomas Fordham Foundation, Texas teachers rank #1 in teacher quality. We need
treat teachers as though they are number one.
We need to increase teachers' salaries on par with the national average.
We could offset the shortage of qualified teachers by offering freshman college students a fully paid
college education, if, after graduation, they would commit to teach at least four years in an under
privileged school district.
